Lone Working at Lakota Hub C.I.C. | Stockton-on-Tees

Working Safely. Supporting Each Other.

At Lakota Hub C.I.C. in Stockton-on-Tees, the safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and everyone involved in our services is a priority.

We recognise that some activities may involve working alone, whether at our premises, during community visits, while travelling or outside normal opening hours.

Our Lone Working Policy helps us identify risks, provide appropriate support and ensure that nobody is expected to work alone in unsafe conditions.

How We Keep Lone Workers Safe

We take a responsible and practical approach to lone working.

Before someone works alone, we assess the potential risks and put suitable safety arrangements in place.

These may include:

  • Risk assessments: Identifying hazards and deciding whether lone working is appropriate.

  • Regular communication: Agreeing check-in arrangements so workers can stay in contact.

  • Emergency procedures: Ensuring workers know how to obtain assistance if something goes wrong.

  • Personal safety: Taking precautions during visits, travel and work outside normal hours.

  • Reporting concerns: Encouraging workers to report accidents, incidents and unsafe situations.

Where risks cannot be adequately controlled, lone working will not take place.

Safeguarding and Individual Needs

Safeguarding remains a priority, particularly when working with children, young people or adults who require additional support.

We carefully consider individual needs, professional boundaries and the level of supervision required.

Where an activity requires another adult for safety or safeguarding, appropriate staffing arrangements must be in place.

Our Commitment to Safe Working

We provide relevant guidance and training to help staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities.

We also review incidents, risk assessments and working arrangements to identify improvements.

By planning carefully, maintaining communication and supporting one another, we aim to create a safe and positive working environment.

Lone Working Policy and Procedure

By taking these steps, we aim to protect everyone who uses our services and maintain a positive, trusted community environment.
